Overton Lock and Dam Hydroelectric Project

John H. Overton Lock and Dam is located on the Red River, 14 miles downstream of Alexandria, Louisiana. John H. Overton Lock and Dam is the second lock and dam in a series of five known collectively as the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway Project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began construction of the John H. Overton Lock and Dam in 1983 and completed the project in 1987. The facility currently provides commercial navigation access and recreation opportunities.

The proposed hydroelectric project would operate in run-of-river mode. Using three turbine/generator units, the proposed project will have installed capacity of 78 MW. A Final License Application was filed in July of 2011.
